The Project School

The Project School is the newest charter school to serve the near downtown area. Located at 22nd Street and the Monon Trail in the National Design District, the school occupies the first renovated building in the National Design Factory. The K-8 school offers a unique hands-on learning experience and project-based curriculum that differs significantly from traditional schools. While The Project School mainly serves students from the surrounding neighborhoods, it has also attracted students from throughout the Indianapolis Metropolitan Area.

Francis W. Parker, Montessori School #56

Francis W. Parker is an IPS Montessori magnet school. The school’s unique learning environment is based on Montessori principles and features multi-age and multi-ability classes and individual learning plans based on each student’s particular needs.

Herron High School

Located in the former Herron School of Art, Herron High School has served downtown Indianapolis since the fall of 2006. The tuition-free charter school’s classical liberal arts curriculum has attracted students from around Indianapolis. The 450 student school recently received a $5 million bond to renovate two historic buildings on the school’s campus.

KIPP Indianapolis is a college preparatory charter school. The tuition-free charter school is part of a national network of schools. KIPP offers an intense and demanding learning environment that prepares its students for college preparatory high schools and college.

The Oaks Academy

Founded in 1998, The Oaks Academy is a K-8 school. The school is one of the few schools in the nation to successfully apply the classical method of education in an urban setting and students constantly score above the national average. While the school is private, many of the its 200 students receive scholarship assistance to attend the school.
